Of course savings rates would not be 7%, as there would be such a collapse in demand that savers would struggle to find people to lend to
At 7%? Are you kidding? There is massive demand for borrowing on credit cards, at rates of over 20%, and Brighthouse, Provident etc manage to make a good living lending at even higher rates than that.
The demand for credit seems to be insatiable.
I agree if base rates went that high loads of people would be in trouble, because mortgages are so large right now, and there are so many BTLs etc that would be in trouble. Ultimately, I'm not sure whether that's a good reason to keep rates low and prolong the pain or not. The longer they stay very low, the more people are pulled into that net of having large debts and being potentially in trouble when rates do eventually rise.0 -
Also I'm not 100% convinced it's correct.

I've just read on the House Buying/Renting/Selling forum that Google Streetview have released more areas to view. They've finally got my own street on streetview.
I'm still not claiming 100% that it's the house in Carolt's Guardian article, but just showing how the brickwork and even roof might come across differently under different cameras and other conditions such as weather.
The bricks on the streetview camera shots are more like the article photo than the letting agency's photo, and roof colour is much darker than letting agency's photo as well.

(Give it a moment to acquire streetview position)
Yoo-hoo. This wider streetview release should help a lot in getting data together with investigations or research on a possible home to buy.0 -
Hey... and check it out - the google streetview, for the address.
In the streetview camera shot, the house alarm is back in the position as in the Guardian article.
The drainpipe/downpipe is also in same position as per the Guardian article.
Google streetview direct link (wait a moment to acquire)
The one above though matches the exact location where I first found it on bing maps.
The letting agency's house is on the same Manor House Drive - very similar - just around the corner.

As the mortgage rate starts to rise again, those not on fixed rates will feel the pain and some will start to default. As to what % rate the "defaults would soar" - who knows.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Just to wrap it up (I think).. streetview attempts to block out or blur numbers and letters, so it isn't always easy to find house numbers using it, to get your bearings immediately. Many slip through though.
If you look at the Google maps streeview, the numbering of the houses leading to that off-shoot row of houses run in single digits down that side of the road. So joined to 82 is number 81 on it's left, ect. It continues that way past the little crescent.
Anyway, I track that house down as being number 74, which according to houseprices.co.uk, last sold in April 2008 for £160,000.Sale Date: 21/04/2008
Price: £160,000
Type: Ter.
Tenure: F
Newbuild: No
74, Manor House Drive, Kingsnorth, Ashford, Kent, TN23 3LP0 -
Exactly - so they ARE telling porkies. They couldn't have bought that house for 105K in 2002 and be selling it now for 180K - because whoever bought it in 2002 also sold it in 2008 - for considerably less.
So - for reasons best known to themselves - the entire story is fabricated.0 -
Here's a nice house near Boughton Monchelsea, it has a stable block and everything...........
