Already got this problem. Am waiting for my DSA Needs Assessment to be finalised. Am already in receipt of IB long-term and MRC and LRM DLA, which means I would be eligible for the Disability Premium and therefore the SSG. However, I've only been give the standard one. If and when my DSA goes through, will they re-assess me anbd give me what they owe me?

I do it all because I'm scared.

This isn't accurate because we are in receipt of HB all year.(my wife made the claim but HB treats us as the same) Where do I go from here?

You've said it yourself here - your wife makes the claim. As a full-time student you do not fit into a category who can claim benefits based on the info you have provided here. As you personally cannot claim HB, you cannot get the SSG.

It appears to me that on this occasion, SFE are correct.

    Sorry.

i am having a very similar problem i am on full time bsc course husband is full time student at college i get adult support grant and child dependant grant, we get housing benefit, but because my hubby is in further education and not higher education SFE are saying i am not entitled to special support grant????????? nowhere in the guidelines does it say partner has to be in HIGHER education it just says STUDENT???

where can i go from here?

    thank you

I think you should be able to get the SSG. I would recommend going to your student advice centre and get them to help you draft an appeal.

Have you sent in evidence of your benefits? They will not reassess your entitlement to SSG based on a DSA award as they are not connected. It might be worth ringing them to see what they have on file for you - you have to request the SSG and send in proof that you qualify.

Send it in again and see what happens. They did this to me - claiming that I'd said I wasn't entitled to SSG.

It was then sent in again and I was awarded SSG. (but had someone who claims to be from SFE tell me I'm not entitled to it)

Student advisor, I sent it in and I KNOW it's on their records as they queried why it was there. Think I'll phone Monday when the anger subsides and ask (yet again) for them to sort it out.
