Don't forget - the next programme in the series is on later

    Britain's Streets of Debt
    Tue 6 Jun, 9:15 am - 10:00 am 45mins

    Borrowers Beware

Sally Magnusson presents a series about debt in Britain today. Repossessions are up 70 per cent from last year as people buy into the homeowning dream and borrow more than they can afford. Ange and Steve have fallen behind with their mortgage and are about to lose their home, while Jeanette Sharratt lived under the shadow of repossession for 16 years. A financial adviser tells how Britain seems to have the most lax regulatory regime anywhere in the developed world.

I still say that what we need in this country is responsibility and education, not an expectation that commercial lenders will operate with our best interests at heart.

Just watched it through the link!! It has certainly re-focused my mind on repaying my debts.

Went into my bank yesterday, and they wanted to give me a credit card, I said NO very politely!!!

I have just watched, and I now feel angry, and upset. I knew what they were saying was true beforehand, but just hearing it has reinforced my determination to pay the b******s their money back as quickly as possible, and then stick two fingers up to them!!!!!

    I totally agree.

So many of our nations problems could be greatly reduced if we had EDUCATION about them before the rot set in.

Anybody tell me why the date of the Battle of Hastings has been really important in their life..? Or perhaps the square root of 81?

Anybody tell me why coming to this site for even a week has helped at all......?

<Cue at least ONE response I hope!! :rotfl: >

God no wonder I missed it yesterday. I thought it was on at 9:15 in the evening not 9:15 am. Why on earth put it on when most people are at work.

Anyway I suppose I can watch it online.

Don't forget to watch this morning's programme:

    Britain's Streets of Debt
    Wed 7 Jun, 9:15 am - 10:00 am 45mins

Easy Prey: Millions of Britain's elderly are up to their necks in debt. Women over 60 are the fastest growing group of people seeking debt advice. Pensioner Margaret Roberts owes 10,000 pounds on a credit card, Rita Hopkins spent almost 20,000 pounds she didn't have on trying to win a fortune, Gwen Colbourne had three store cards, six credit cards and two loans - yet had no assets and lived on a small pension.

I've got a feeling I may be shouting at the telly.

I couldn't believe the old lady who had blown thousands on admin fees for prizes that never arrived. She was only stopped because her daughters have had her post redirected. She was sitting with one of the last offers she had (typical 'you have won a cash prize, just sent a few £ as a fee) and was saying how time was running out for her to reply and the prize would go to the next person on the list. It sent shivers down my spine that she just did not see how it was a con. I think she blamed her daughters for not letting her send the money. After the shivers I got really angry at the way that the conmen, having gotten money out of her once, sent more and more prize letters and offers.
But then isn't that what they all do? Give money to one charity and you will get loads of begging letters. They're all at it and it sucks.

I think it was Shakespear that said 'kill all the lawyers'. He was close to being right but he should have said 'kill all the marketer's. (is that a word?).
