There is a door switch HERE for £3.38.

    Its rated at 2 Amps.

If you dont know if 2 Amps is sufficient for your requirements, then I would get an electrician to wire your light for you.

If your wiring overheats in the loft it could cause a fire.

:doh:Doh, I just noticed that Bob posted the same link in the second post...:o

    Too late again......

  • Replace the loft hatch with the front of an old fridge.

It would be a pain to go into the loft everytime you needed the milk.

As the other suggestions above, I fitted a light recently in my loft and used a PIR sensor thats meant for use outside - it controls a fluorescent tube.

You could keep your beer in there too!;)

my loft has a normal light switch just inside the hatch. why make things complicated?
youde have to be a real numpty to leave the light on !!!!!!.
my garage has 3 strip lights with a normal switch, by the kitchen/garage door. the door is glass, so its easy to spot if the lights are on.
    Get some gorm.

If you use a make/break switch, when you leave the loft how do you know it's turned off, it might stay on and you'd never know! ;)

Easy. Have a Velux window fitted, then link the loft hatch to a sophisticated hi-tech system that sends you a text 15 minutes after you've opened the hatch, reminding you to run out into the garden and look at the Velux window to make sure the light's out.

Or, you could cut a batman shaped hole in the loft hatch, so if the light is left on, a batman shaped sillhouette appears on the carpet below it.......Kapow!

    Hey, great!

I don't know if we have solved the OP's problem, but we have got some real progress on a scientific experiment to solve one of the great mysteries of the modern age.
