Hi there just thought you and others having problems with the demon debt collectors/purchasers you can now sign a pettition, this petition needs all the help it can get so spread the word. Get everyone you can to sign up and lets get this activity outlawed. Dead line to sign up is the 15th April 2010. I cant add a link but if you go to the number 10 gov website under pettitions and outlaw dsps you can sign it. Pass this on to as many people as you can.0

You can't kill the wolves, they are part of the food chain.
If finance companies cannot offload bad debts, they will not give credit without proper collatteral. Unless you have impeccable credit history, and collateral, you will have to pay in full when you buy things. This is pretty much a credit crunch like Alistair Darling was trying to prevent. Loan sharks will thrive in this environment.
So, ecologically, you are simply replacing one nasty predator with another,
but increased the population of vulnerable bunnies.0 -
Don't ever talk to debt collectors always talk to the company the debt is owed to(npower in your case) but don't ignor itlovelifenotmoney wrote: »Hi there just thought you and others having problems with the demon debt collectors/purchasers you can now sign a pettition, this petition needs all the help it can get so spread the word. That’s very sound advice provided npower [or whoever] will actually talk to you. They might just tell you that as the debt collection agency has been instructed [and if that’s the case] you must talk to the debt collection agency.markharding557 wrote: »Don't ever talk to debt collectors always talk to the company the debt is owed to(npower in your case) but don't ignore it.
The first rule is to settle any such claim well before it goes to a debt collection agency. To do this you first need to ascertain whether the claim for payment is genuine or if it’s a mistake. If necessary, ask for further information in writing but please don’t just do nothing and put it in a drawer hoping it will go away, it won’t and it’ll only get worse.
If the claim’s a genuine one, it’s best to pay it ASAP or arrange a schedule of acceptable payments ASAP. If the claim’s a mistake or a try on, contact the company ASAP claiming the debt and get the claim dropped. If necessary, take advice from the CAB or similar. Also, ask for a letter from the company or debt collection agency to confirm when the claim has been dropped.
I think the original poster here paid the debt, so I’m assuming that he did owe the money. If he owed the money, it’s odd that the claim took six months but that’s another matter.
I’ve no sympathy with anyone trying to avoid paying their debts or getting into debt in the first place when there’s no need but I don’t agree with the hang ‘em high caustic posts from some posters on this thread. Surely, these posters could moderate their posts so as to be a little less offensive and judgmental, it would make them look a lot less small minded. A little bit of tact and courtesy goes a long way especially as people are looking for help and advice and they know they’ve been unwise in getting into debt.
If any debt collection agency is breaking the law against harassment then it definitely should be reported to the correct authority. As to whether making false claims in letters as to powers of seizure that a debt collection agency doesn’t possess constitutes harassment, if it doesn’t it definitely should.0 -
hi miss moppet agree with all your post except this "They might just tell you that as the debt collection agency has been instructed [and if that’s the case] you must talk to the debt collection agency."
no they are scumsuckers of the lowest order and must be ignored
most businesses will accept reasonable repayment proposals and that includes npower.
ALWAYS ALWAYS contact by mail not phone the company you owe money to not a debt collector
