Ok,
I shall be living in a (privately rented) detached house amongst another 4 other people, we figured getting home contents insurance would be wiser in comparison to having seperate studenty insurance.
How is best to go about this. Does anyone have any recommendations (i will not touch endsleigh with a bargepole fyi) what should we expect to pay annually. And where should we start looking.
Btw we should be in durham if that makes any difference.
Thanks for you help
Cheers

Sorry to bring up this again. But it is extremely hard to find any form of insurance for just the tenants, as the building is not owned by us. And as we are students I guess people are quite dubious to insure us?
What have other students done with regards to insurance?
Cheers

I can't understand why you say it is hard to find insurance for tenants only? Most insurance companies (I don't know of any that don't to be honest and I work in the industry) will sell you a contents only policy, where the property is let they usually require you to furnish them with a copy of the letting agreement to establish what property is the liability of the landlord and what remains "at risk" to the policy. To name a few AXA, RSA. Legal & General, More Than, Admiral these are the big boys and ALL of them will offer seperate contents cover whether you are a tenant or owner.
HTH
P.S
An easy way to distinguish "contents" from "buildings" is to imagine you picked the property up and shook it everything that falls out would be considered "contents" anything that remains attached to the building would be considered as fixtures and fittings and fall into the domain of the "buildings" policy, there are some exceptions to this rule but they are far and few between.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
I think i have found a decent quote from liverpool victoria, I will give them a call in due course to see whether they can offer anything that is suitable.

myself and boyfriend just went with asda, £15000 for £190 a year.
£55 quidco cashback too - although that has not tracked properly, so don't rely on it.
the other quotes we got were £350+.0
