This is for MSN Messenger on XP
If you dont find this your cup of tea leave well alone.
Grab the custom emoticons that you use in messenger and have fun.
This is one I got earlier from my own PC
Ok the first thing to do is to click, Start, All Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer, then Tools, Folder Options, and then click on the View Tab, and Tick Show Hidden files and Folders and also Untick Hide extensions for known file types, then click OK.
Now Navigate the file structure whilst still in Windows Explorer so that you expand My Computer by clicking on the small plus sign on the left of the word My Computer, this will expand the file structure so that you will be able to see the Messenger Folder so its, Expand My Computer, Boot (C/ Drive), Documents and Settings, Then the Username you are logged on the PC as, then Expand Application Data, Then Microsoft, Then MSN Messenger, and then click on the folder underneath and then click on the one called Custom Emoticons, and there you should see files with the extension ending in .dat
Now if you right click a .dat file and choose rename now click the mouse cursor just behind the full stop so that you are only changing the dat part of the name from dat to gif so that 000123.dat should look like 000123.gif for example, now when you have renamed the file you will see the custom emoticon that you use in MSN Messenger, now right click the picture and choose open with and Choose Internet Explorer, then right click that picture that has opened in IE and choose save picture as and save it as a gif file or it wont be animated.
Now once you have saved the required picture on your PC and have now finished you need to rename the file back with the extension of dat so that 000123.gif becomes 000123.dat now whilst still in explorer undo the changes on the view tab as explained earlier.
I wanted to get a few of theses so I found out by trial and error but thought I would share my complete and utter sadness with you all
