Dehumidifier

Hi

Hopefully this is the right board for this question? , I apologise now if it isn't.

My maisonette seems to be getting really bad condensation which is making the whole place feel really damp.

My friend has advised me to get a dehumidifier to get rid of the condensation, will this help the problem and if it does do i need to leave it running 24/7 and will it be expensive to run?

Thanks:confused:

Short answer Yes. Most run at about 100-200watts so about 3 light bulbs running all the time, Your house will feel warmer but you will have to empty at least once a day.

But how long have you lived there and is it any worse?

Your best to find if there is a problem that you can tackle.

  • i have only lived there since the summer, so can not say if the problem is getting worse... I have been advised from neighbours that due to the concrete floor and concrete roof the maisonettes are prone to condensation.

I have noticed that the front door is getting stuck lots... could this be due to the condensation?
  • If the door is wood then most doors and windows swell at this time of year.

What heating do you have? Do you have poor ventalation in your bathroom? Do you boil water on the cooker? These all add to the condensation problem.

But as I said in the short term a de humidifier will help. If you take a cost of about 12p per unit it will run for about 7hrs so thats 12p every 7hrs. These are only rough calculations.

  • Hi i have a ebac dehumidifier which i have found to be great.
The model i have has smart control so it only runs when it is required i just leave it on 24hrs a day and it justs switches it self on.I find i only have to empty water container every couple of days.
Have a look at the website http://www.ebacdirect.com/?gclid=CO3ordmGiZ4CFYIA4wodBl0UnQ
They also come with a five year warranty.
