Laptop repair

I took my laptop in for repair and found out it was out of warenty. I said i dont want it fixed at this time so need to collect it. They said i will be charged £25 diagnostice fee.
The company didnt state this at the start is it right i should have to pay i had no warning that i would encure this charge

Did they give you any paperwork when you gave them the laptop?I'm not cynical I'm realistic
