Lloyds TSB Overdraft Charge - Advice Please

Hi
I've just found out I have been charged £175 by Lloyds TSB for being overdrawn for 6 days with them. My overdraft was set at £400 and I went up to £900. I know this is my responsibility too, but I have a young baby and don't always have the time to check my account on line. LTSB said they sent me a letter, by which time it was too late anyway. I told them they should have cancelled my card and they said they had to honour it, when I was making payments.

I just can't believe no one tried to call me. Can they seriously charge me that amount of money? I'm really upset about it and would be really grateful for any advice any one has to help me out. Or do I just have to accept they can do this?

They can do this but are you reclaiming your bank charges yet?

  • Hi,

Thanks for your response. I just can't believe LSTB can charge so much! No, I haven't started anything yet, as I only found out this morning. I don't know where to start. I can only get through to a call centre when I call up and they are not much help. To be honest, I just needed to calm down and thought I should ask for advice.

The above is the reclaims guide.
Do you have priority debt arrears(mortgage or rent, council tax, utilities)?
If yes then look at the hardship guide as well.

If this is the first time you've been charged it's definitely worth asking them to waive the charges as it's a 'first offence'. It has worked for a fair few people in the past. Try it on the phone first - be calm and polite. If it doesn't work then try it in writing.
