Hi
Is it possable to claim money back from british gas, we have asked but they seem reluctent as the account needs to stay in credt.
We are £300+ in credit with elec and £200+ with gas, we where hoping to get maybe £50 back from gas and £150 from electric, therefore leaving us still in credit with them
Any ideas, help or tips would be appreciated
many thanks in advance

I have successfully acheived this in the past (around 15 yrs ago).My advice is worth exactly what you're paying for it!

It depends on your usage, or more importantly your expected usage for the coming winter compared to what you pay monthly.
Assuming you agreed to pay monthly by DD to even out payments across the year, you should be in credit at this time of year.
You could ask to pay quarterly on receipt of bill if you prefer to only pay for what you have consumed. (but you might lose some discounts)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... you need to work out what you consumption will be upto the end of winter - last years bills if you have them. If your DD will be sufficient to cover this then you should be able to state this and get all your credit back, otherwise work out what you will use and ask for a partical refund.
I usually wait until around april then if in credit i ring up and get it all back as going into summer - though never been as much credit as you have now.
I must add, the way i look at it even if they put your DD up after crediting you back all that amount it would take quite some time before you give it all back to them.0 -

That's what I have done in the past. If you request the refund now, they will almost certainly increase your DD. I have found that it is easier to get a refund in April without them increasing the DD, because going into summer the usage is going to be less anyway.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Thankyou all
my hubby rang them back with an upto date reading, and not only have we got £150 coming back to us, but my elecric monthly dds have been cut in half as well:rotfl:
Thanks

you want to be really careful you don't end up in arrears as a result of cutting the dd.bluebluecow wrote: »Thankyou all

might seem good now but it won't next summer if you end up in arrears.
does the reduced payment cover your consumption?0
