Absolutely fuming.. please help!!

My parents both have loans with Barclays. The details may be vague here because they won't tell me what they owe or what their monthly payments are.

Basically they have payment protection on the loans which they wish to remove. I would also like to say my dad is 71 and was sold this loan and insurance when he was 69, even though the insurance is not valid once you are over 70 yet he is still paying it!!

They will not remove the payment protection from the loans and have instead offered my mum a loan for more money, of which I am not sure of the details but my mum would not get any of the extra money but which has a slightly lower monthly payment, they also want to do the same for my dad.

I just don't get it!! Why can't they remove the PPI, why are they offering loans for more bloody money and why have they sold a policy which would have become redundant for my dad in 6 months and now won't remove it.

My blood is absolutely bloody boiling!! My dad is being forced to retire from work and him and my mum have a mountain of debt. I can't give you figures because they won't tell me, I'm just devastated for them really.

    Hello there
    So sorry to hear this.

If you have already complained and they have not put this right by the final decision, you can take this complaint to the financial ombudsman service (FOS).
They should enclose the FOS details with the final response.

Its bad that they sold the PPI in these situations, not on at all, keep going at them, and if they do not resolve this in your parents favour then complaint to the ombudsman.
    Details here of the FOS:

Good luck with this, and please post up anytime for help, hopefully others will give opinions on this as well, please keep us posted.
    Cheers.;)

  • Thanks Di. I just had to try and understand it all through my mum who is understandably upset. I know they shouldn't have loans at their age but they have been completely and utterly stitched up. My mum is writing letters for her and my dad this evening, if anyone has any templates of info we should be quoting I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you!

I would ring the FOS so they can write to Barclays on your mum and dads behalf and get everything moving quicker.

  • Mum has just called me to say the bank have called my dad to say they have made a mistake on his loan and they will remove the ppi, nothing about the rebate though. I am going to get mum to get onto Barclays for the rebate, will take a look at FOS. Thank you

  • I still don't get it all though. I just hope my mum and dad don't sign up to something else that stitches them up even more!

Make sure your dad gets back all payments already made towards the PPI and the rest removed so the monthly payments are lower .

I will try, i've sent notes to my mum to put in a letter to get the PPI back from my dad. I suppose we have to give Barclays chance to sort it out first before going to FOS.

    Hi there

That is looking good then if they admitted to the mistake, well done.:T

However, I note you said you have wrote to them as well, but it may also be worth you requesting that they post a full detailed written breakdown to make sure nothing is amiss.;)
    Good luck.
