I gave myself a harder time than anyone has. The peeps on here have been amazing and I cannot thank them (and you) enough for the support you've given me and hubby.

On a depressing note tho - my head is still a jumble and as for my memory well.......what was I gonna say??? lol

hubbys says its cos I'm nearly 40 but I am still gonna blame the stress of leading up to yesterday lol

    Hi there,

I have a lloyds tsb account (no credit cards with them, no overdraft, nothing owed to them and they were not connected to any other creditor that I owed money too).

On the day I was made bankrupt and following the advice from my OR following my call from him the same day, I phoned lloyds tsb and told them about my situation and asked if they would be able to downgrade my current account to a basic account.

Although tsb dont take on new customers who are bankrupt they will allow existing customers who declare themselves bankrupt to stay with them and downgrade the account. However I have heard since that each tsb branch is discretionary, but mine were really nice and understanding. The OR was ok with this. My direct debits and wages were already going into my tsb account prior to bankruptcy. I didnt need to change anything. The only thing that changed is I no longer have a cheque book and debit card. That said I manage just great and pay cash for everything. I actually feel quite proud of paying cash at the checkout - I used to think that people who paid by cash were quite well off!! It was like they had just popped in to pick up a few bits, paying with the money they carry around in their purse! How envious was I thinking I wish I had cash in my purse !!!! How funny now to look back.

Anyway, you will know me because I am the one who walks around the supermarket with a shopping list (unheard of b4 bankruptcy) and a calculator!

Hope this helps. I think it pays to be honest.Things always have a way of working themselves out.

    Good luck and keep smiling!

    xx

:hello:thanks for sharing your experience brighter side of life, i'm glad it went relatively smoothly for you.

i doubt natwest would want to know me now so i opened a coop cashminder account in preparation!!

oh yes i have a supermarket shopping list, but have never taken a calculator, i think after br this is the next step for me:D

thanks for your kind wishes, i will do my best to keep smiling, although it's more like a crazy grimace at the moment LOL xx
  • Hi confused :hello:

Yeah, thanks and I hope it runs smoothly for you too. In my town the Tsb is close to Nationwide which I owed quite a lot of money too. Nationwide were the ones who refused my IVA application. All my other creditors agreed. So, as I pass the doors of the Nationwide bank I dont know whether to laugh or cry. Laugh because I was willing to try my hardest to keep paying what I owe and they simply didnt want to know and cry because my only option following their objection to my IVA was bankruptcy.

So, I am nearly 6 months into my bankruptcy journey and its had it ups and downs (no doubt there may be more!). Still, we have this forum for support and what a support network it is. We all need a little bit of tlc and a warm reception at times, because it can be a big bad world out there, cant it!

See you around the forum. :j

i think i would go mad without the support from you lovely people here.
