Egg automated phone calls....

Whats the point of an automated phone call from Egg to verify some recent transactions....when the automated call doesn't give enough time for my wife to say "It's for you" and reach the phone to me....its all you need at this time of the year, a couple of major purchases put on hold because you don't get to speak to a robot in time...hope it doesn't result in delays in delivery, stock issues or worse still price fluctuations (they normally only go up)
I thought if Egg (Visa) are signed up to the Visa Verification program they wouldn't need this automated call rubbish...
