LloydsTSB - overpay credit card?

Want to make a purchase that is about £38 above my LloydsTSB credit card limit. If I was to overpay by £38, would they allow that?

whilst i dont think its technically allowed, its not like the overpayment would get rejected, maybe do it via online banking?

My mum has had a £100 credit balance on her credit card for months because she typed £150 into the online payment, instead of £50, she really should use it up
    £4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard
    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
    £5070 Black Horse Finance

Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!

Putting your account into credit by small amounts isn't usually a problem, they normally occur when people load hundreds or thousands onto their cards. However there are downfalls for any amounts.

Your card issuer may choose to put a block on your card til your account overpayment is resolved. That could be embarrasing and infuriating.

Purchases made using a card which is in credit may not be covered by the CCA 2006.

Would it not be easier to ask for a small credit limit increase or just delay the purchase til you have funds?
  • I'm hearing of more and more CC lenders who actually levvy a charge for an account thats in credit so make sure you read any small print first.
Credit card and overdraft at 18. 2 loans and 3 storecards at 20. University education flushed down the toilet through debt at 22. Car finance at 23. Car repossessed at 24. Rock bottom at 25. Learnt my lesson 26-33. Now 34 with a mortgage on an affordable house, a car paid for with cash and a bank account in credit. I learnt the hard way.

Not advisable. Credit card companies take a dim view of any activity which breaches their
    Ts & Cs.

More to the point, you cannot normallly spend more than your entire credit limit in one day regardless of your actual balance (exceptions to this would be lots of transactions under floor limit and delayed transactions from abroad). You can't do it as the credit limit on the card is the maximum that can be spent, even if you did pre-load the card.

Why not simply pay the excess by other means?
