Yes it's the thought of getting her away that is lovely ( you don't know how long they have got!!) i know that sounds morbid , but my dad died so suddenly with an anyourism(SP) he was fine in the morning painting the shed !! he had a pain in his stomach(thought it was indigestion) i took him to the doctors where they sent him to hospital ,they operated and he was dead within 4 hrs bless him!!
So you can see why i want my mum to have a bit of life!!

I think you're absolutely right to put things into perspective like that. I lost my mum 6 months ago from Altzheimers (she was only 64) and I would give anything to have her back and the opportunity to go on holiday with her.
As you say, it only puts you back a month debt-wise which is nothing really in the great scheme of life.
I say have a thoroughly fantastic time, take some great photos and return with lots of happy memories and then get back on the DFW wagon when you get back!

You go and have a wonderful time and no, you mustn't feel guilty. Time with family cannot be replaced.
If it helps, I am also going on holiday abroad in August. I've sold stuff, got cashback for opening accounts, cashback from Quidco coming in and have plenty of stuff for car boot sales.
On top of that we are going away with the family for a long weekend at the end of this month (tagging it onto a weekday wedding) - both my parents are in poor health and they want to spend some quality time with their children and grandchildren at the coast. The extra night at the hotel is £50 and I'll need a little spending money, but I'd rather do that, than regret not going for the sake of paying a bit more off the cc this month.
As I see it (this time round anyway), I wouldn't have been getting money coming in before I came here. On the other hand, if I used it to pay off debt, I'd be debt-free a month earlier, like yourself. But I'm not going to kick myself for it. I'm just going to have a good holiday MS style and not book one for next year.
Have a great time!Back on the DFW Wagon:
CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019

Hey,even DFWs need a life. I recently spent £66 pounds on tickets to watch Wales play France in the rugby 6 nations tournament, spent far too much on beer & a meal afterwards & all I gained from it was a headache & a vague recollection that we lost the game!Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Hi.
Looking at it from a different perspective, imagine you didn't go, and one day you lost your mum (God forbid), you would hate yourself for even considering your debts before time spent with her and no doubt be riddled with regrets.
Of course you should go! Have a great time, and create lots of precious memories together.
Nothing is more important than family IMO. Sometimes I feel like a pelican. Whichever way I turn, I've still got an enormous bill in front of me.0 -

I have not been around for a while cos feel to embarrased (sp)
The reason being Tues week i am going on holiday to marjorca with my mum:o
My mum will be 70 in dec and since my dad died nearly 3 yrs ago has not been away for 16 yrs (apart from his 1st anniversary when i took her away for a week as neither of us wanted to be here and relive it!!)at her suggestion and the agreement of my OH and kid's we have decided to go.
This is a really nice post and all I will add to what everyone else has said, is that things like this are what money is for, memories and good times with the family.
I hope you all have a wonderful time
All the best
