my parents have just bought a hd tv,and have sky tv.
they have rang up sky and asked how much it would be to recieve the channels in hd,they said they would need another box and a payment of £200 then £10 a month.
is there a cheaper way for this,or offers on at the moment, seems alot to pay
thankyou
(hope i have posted this in the right place!)

this is correct you need a new sky box for HD plus there is the HD subscription at the moment there are not that many channels, deffinatley not all the normal sky anyway,
I have also got an HD ready TV but going to wait until the prices come down before thinking about ventuering and buying Sky HD0 -
i think it is a lot there are not many channels, dont forget though more will be comming and you can still watch the standard ones aswellThings that are free in life are great, well most of the time :beer:0

exactly my point why pay HD subscription for a few channels
a few months time the subscription will be the same more channel available and boxes will be cheaper0 -
I also have a HD TV but will wait until the prices have come down for SKY HD as I think the main reason for people buying at the moment is to watch the World Cup in Hi-Def.
I think there is around 10 HD channels at the moment, and they are as follows
SKY 1 HD
SKY Sports 1 HD
BBC HD
Artsworld HD
SKY Movies 9 HD
SKY Movies 10 HD
Discovery HD
national Geographic HD
SKY Box Office 1 HD
SKY Box Office 2 HD0 -
It has just been released so at the moment there is no decent offers on it - £300 or so for the box and an additional £10 a month sub but you only get the HD channels that your normal subscription would give you... so if you dont have the sports packages you dont get the Sky Sports 1 HDAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I notice a lot of tv`s on sale are now HD ready but very few are Digital. With Analogue being switched off in a couple of years ,why are manufacturers still making analogue tele`s ?.0

World cup is on BBC and ITV though (as far as i know) so they won't be seeing it in high def.0 -
Telewest HD is £10 or 15 a month and you dont need to buy the PVR box yourself.
With the HD, they finally seem to have caught up with Sky on picture quality as well. If you're in a cable area you can try it for a year then go back to Sky if you want, no loss financially?0 -

Dont know where you are looking but most manufactures are making 2 versions of every TV, one with a freeview tuner and one without it so 50% of TVs have digital.
For me there is no point in having a freeview tuner built in as I have sky+ so why would I pay for something I wont use and that is just something else to break down. If you dont have sky/ telewest or still watch broadcast TV even though you have an external STB then the TVs are there for your tastes. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
