Really fed up now

We've been working really hard to get rid of the debts we've run up, we've gone from £53503.83 on 01/01/09 down to currently £38329.33. Sadly it's not fast enough.

DH is in the army and has a couple of months until his first posting. Next month he has to put his preference in for where he wants to go. Because of our stupidity in running up stupid amounts of debts we can't actually afford to go anywhere because I need to work and can't just give up my (hateful) job. He would love to be posted to London and it sounds great, not least because if he stays here, first stop is Afghanistan and me here alone... I just want to say stuff it and go but the stupid debts... Why is life always uphill?

He's also just found out that his trade is being moved to lower pay band too, wouldn't it be nice if the government paid soldiers more than post office staff (my job)

On the other hand, they are looking to make more cuts where I work and I wouldn't be surprised if they either closed our branch after Christmas or made some people redundant... Maybe I should look to escape before that happens? I just want to live my life for once instead of feeling like we're just surviving. Sorry for whinging, I know that no one can fix this for us, I just needed to whinge :o

You are doing really well and look how much you've paid off in a year:j! it's only natural to feel down sometimes so don't beat yourself up about it. maybe challenge yourself to raise a certain amount by the end of the year - I also find this stops you spending too much on christmas (or maybe that's just me:o).

If DH did move to London how easy do you think it would be for you to get another job? or would you have to get one before moving to join him?

  • Agree with skint_spice - you've done fantastically well to get that amount paid off in this time - be proud of that :-)

And it's not whinging - it's letting off steam! And it's a good thing to do, else we'd all explode

We have a married quarter so if he gets the job we have to move together or he'd have nowhere to live! Since I've moved to this area I've been applying for jobs non stop (11 months) and have only had one intereview... It's been hit really bad by the recession here-maybe London would be better. It could be worse, at least I have my job right now. I've finished Christmas now, that's something I guess... But every month every penny is accounted for so I know already that by the end of the year I'll have paid another £1512.36 off, same every month. The other £500 or so we earn is bills, food and petrol money so I can't save any on that. But... I have put loads of stuff on ebay-what you said the other day prompted me to get moving a bit :)

Thank you, I know I'm being a bit hard on myself but I just want to do better. I just feel like what I've done isn't enough

Got a bit more positivity today, been up since 5 because of the noisy weather and DHs snoring!

Looked into the possibility of travelling to work back here each day... Not entirely sure why we didn't think of that before, but there you go! He's going to put in for it anyway so we'll just see if he gets it now.

Just got to think of a way to get these debts shifting a bit before his course ends next year... Going to sort a plan of action starting from next months pay I think :D

You sound more positive this morning Meyore...good for you. Sometimes you just need to write down what's bothering you and it sort of frees up space in your head to actually start being proactive.

You have made such an amazing reduction in your total debt in a relatively short space of time, so you should be very proud of yourselves.
YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

really....it's not hard to understand :T

Hi, I agree with this, I allways write the things down that are bothering me, then leave it and come back to it. I allways find that it seems to free up space untill I can deal withit again. The trouble is I've all sorts of written thoughts all over the place!. But I also agree that meyore has done brilliant so far, well done.:T.

If you work for 'The Post Office' than look to transfer to another branch or into Royal Mail. Your HR dept would look into that for you. Failing that seek help from the union. I wouldn't advise leaving The Post Office because of rumours of closure as the redundancy money could be worth hanging on for. One again the union would advise.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.

Rather than travelling every day, you could also compare that the renting Mon-Thu nights so you only commute once a week. There are websites where people advertise their spare room on a 4-nights per week basis. Like here: http://www.mondaytofriday.com/

Or, just stay away 1-2 nights.

Just another way to mix things up a bit.

Thank you both :) Writing it down did help, mind you that day did get worse before it got better, was in a foul mood :o We have done well, mainly selling everything we could and cutting back wherever we could. We could cut back further, but if we deprive ourselves too much we'll just end up slipping up as we have before.... :D
