Usually there's something called super CDW which you can pay extra for and bring the excess down to something nominal or even nothing.

Rule Number 1 of hiring a car. Always take out the maximum insurance!
Rule Number 2, see rule number 1!

The extra insurance offered by car hire companies is outrageously expensive, so that should read never take out the maximum insurance as you're being utterly ripped off.

I never take out the excess waiver charge as it seems a nonsense to pay something £15 per day to protect £500.

Admittedly, I can afford to drop £500 in the unlikely event that the car is damaged and that is not true for everyone but anyone who really can't afford to take that risk should take out their own excess waiver insurance.

IIRC, there is a little gotcha that insurance4carhire don't cover rentals that start close to home.

bigger picture here. renaults have plastic arches wich are so flexibleyou can push them in and touch the support arm for the front end of the car and it will pop back to normal! if he dinted it hard it will have damaged this arm (wich will be hidden) affecting the vehicles suspension setup, engine support as the leg supports the engine and its mounts engine mountains are made of alumnium and rubber and split, crack easy so the damage may not just be a scratch, and thus making the vehicle un-roadworthy, think of the next person with kids who hires this car and all of a sudden the engine falls out on the motorway coz the mountain snapped due to this guys damage potentialy fatal, enterprise gets prosocuted because of this guys carelessness. and lets face it to aquaplain a 59 plate megane (new tyres etc) he must of been doing a fair bit of speed so would of dinked it fairy hard. not to mention that if he hit the wing he may have hit the wheel and damage streering parts and chassis. come clean and pay for it. dont hide damage or tamper with the car just come clean n pay for it.
not to mention he will intentionally void the warrenty of the vehicle for future services etc because he hasnt had it main dealer repaired think its 59 plate wich is under warrenty and WILL have to go back to the dealer to be painted with renault paint and parts. chipsaway wont touch it nor any repair shop due to warrenty issue's. renaults garentee their piant work wont weather under so many years with their paint useing any other paint would void this and warrenty because main dealer hasnt painted it!!! dont dig a hole for yourself TELL THEM.

    :rotfl:

Insurance companies wont be sending cars to Renault for repairs unless it happens to be their own approved repair centre anyway. My 9 yr old Golf has a 12 year paint and corrosion warranty but if I prang it my insurance company wont put it to VW for the repair!

To say that a scrape on the wing is enough to crack or damage a chassis or engine mounting in such a way that an engine will "fall out on the motorway" is nothing short of ridiculous! A car would never get past the safety regulations if this was the case.

how is it rediculous your golf is 9 years old you could take it to main dealer for painting to honour the garentee but we are talking about a new car not old banger vw golf! cars today are designed to crumble on impact so the engine/frame takes brunt of it and the cabin is like a hardened safety cell, side impact bars toughened windscreen and windows multiple airbags toughened bulk head e.t.c the reson for platic flexible wings is that if you dinked it the frame and engine would take the force of it! and you have options with insurers either they take it for repair or you can nominate a repairer like a main dealer!

Maybe not but they will be sending the car to a proper VAT registered garage that guarantees to use manufacturers parts to maintain the warranty.

He made a good point about the warranty and that's another good reason why they won't allow him to get the vehicle repaired himself at a garage of his choice
