Hope someone can shed some light on calling mobiles from UK using these special 0844 numbers
http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/intcallchecker/usa-mobile#works
Specifically we have Virgin media landline and want to call mobiles in US and India.
If using the 0844 method - does the person receiving the call get charged extra? And how much roughly would it cost on virgin to make these calls (i.e. to use the 0844 number) ?

The person receiving the call does not get charged extra, but people recieving calls in the USA either landline or mobile normally get charged to recieve calls anyway.
My recent post No 13 in this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2062677
tells you how to work out the cost of a 0844 call from VM.
You can use http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php on VM via their 0808 Freephone Number to make cheaper calls.0 -
What Ypaymore is saying is that, because your line provider is Virgin Media, the cost of calling whichever 0844 number you decide to use will be a lot more than it appears on the MSE CallChecker - Virgin Media add (or sometimes multiply) an extra profit margin. My recent post No 13 in this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2062677

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
