Bad Credit?

Options
I really don't know where to post this, so sorry if this is the wrong place...

We moved into a rented house back in February. The house had been empty since December. The day we moved in we opened an account with EDF for gas and electricity with the actual reading for the counters etc. In June we received a gas bill from EDF for the period from December to April. After explaining to them that we only moved in February, they split the bill and sent us two new bills.
Because the house owner lives abroad, I gave EDF the address for the management company (letting agency) so they could also send them the bill for the period December to February. I also sent a copy of the bill to the management company myself.

For the past 5 months I have called EDF and the management company several times regarding this matter because the bill (December to February which amounts to £ 125.00) hasn't been paid. EDF sent two reminders which I sent to the management company. At the end of October a debt collection agency sent a "72 Hours" notice, I called the management agency and EDF just to make sure that they knew it was up to the owner of the house to pay for this bill. At the beginning of the week we received a letter from a solicitor demanding payment.

The bill, debt collector's notice and solicitor's notice was made out to "THE CUSTOMER" but obviously the address was for the house we presently live in.

Yesterday I sent the solicitor's letter to the management company with a strong worded letter demanding action.

My worry is that although the letters etc are addressed to "THE CUSTOMER" since we are the only people registered at this address this could end up affecting our credit rating / reference.

Am I right to worry? Could this really affect us?

Thanks for any advise.

  • In a word. No

It won't do anything. Unless specifically addressed to you.

And also, credit rating etc isn't tied into the address either it's tied into you.

Stop worrying :) your taking all possible steps.
