Hope its something simple and not the motor etc completely knackered.

I had a korean car years ago and the air con/fan motor stopped working and due to the difficulty in getting the parts and the location of it it turned out to be far more expensive than I ever thought it could be.

Could it be as simple as a fuse "blown"? Have you looked in the handbook to check which fuse(s) cover a/c and fan? My car has a separate fuse for each. If the a/c doesn't operate then the fan possibly won't cut in and vice versa.
However, if it is a fuse then the cause of it "blowing" needs to be determined - they usually don't "blow" for no reason.
Or insufficient gas in the a/c system? The compressor will not operate at too low a pressure and the fan will then not run. It might be worth a re-gas anyway at four years old if it's not been done before - but then, if that's the case, where has the gas gone!?
  • Thanks for the replies, a friend at work is going to help me with fuse, we are going to change and see if works, but I physically can't pull the fuse out in the first place, tried tweezers but no help of to get some pointed pliers. Will take it to Garage for it to be checked out, only had a full service at Kia about 4 weeks ago and I assumed that air con was checked in that it should have been the price they charged me, will not be going there again, but will need to find a garage that someone can recommend, always feel vunerable as a female driver, alot of times I feel I am being spun a yarn!

If you had a service at a kia dealership they should have given you a sheet with what was checked.

Is the heater working at all or is it just the air con?

If its the air con then it probably needs a top up with the gas.

I had the air con topped up at kwik fit in the summer and they told me that its cheaper this time of year.

  • no the heater is not working I have no fans at the front, the back seats have a seperate switch for fans and they are working!

  • Err faults can develop after a service. I wouldn't blame the garage.
    .....

  • By fans I incorrectly assumed you meant the condensor cooling fan, in front or behind the radiator under the bonnet!:o:p
If it's the heater fan not working then your a/c will only work with it on. The fan would still work (for heating) even if the system needed re-gassing. So, yes, could be fuse or the fan switch itself, or both. A faulty switch, or even fan motor, could blow the fuse.
Checking the a/c system is not usually a routine service item and they'd only check if you specifically asked first - at extra cost of course!
Keep it simple at first, go for the obvious cheaper fault possibilities.

Thanks for all your suggestions and help, 'davetrousers' I meant that I would not return to the garage becauce of how much the service cost and fully understand that a fault can occur at anytime. A collegue at work recommended a mechanic, who look at the car today, and discovered that it was a fault with the switch so will order me one from Kia and shall fit it on Tuesday. I just need to find out how to stop the windows from fogging up until then I need to get to Crystal Palace for 6.30 a.m. tomorrow morning for my son to train, and to Hatfield in the evening for a gala so hopefully will be able to keep the window clear. Thanks again it is certainly appreciated

Possibly a fault with the main fan speed control rheostat, if you have sorted the fuse issue;)

Just open your windows, not too comfortable, but it is better to have clear windows than being warm.
