Anyone read/speak Polish?

I have taken the plunge and booked to visit a friend in Poland in August. :D

I've received an email from him relating to travel arrangements but it's in Polish. I've tried the Poltran.com translator and it comes out double-dutch rather than English.

Can anyone help me to translate or can anyone recommend a translation service online? ;)

I am scared witless at the prospect of travelling (not really done it before) and would really love to be clear about arrangements before leaving!

Thanks.

I have used the following translation sites in the past, don't know if they will be of any use to you

Thanks for the recommendation slowen but Polish isn't an option on either of those sites.

Poltran is the only one I can find to translate but perhaps it's the way that the email is written (informal style?). For example "I salute and it kisses for seeing soundly already" - hardly good English, is it?!!

One thing you could try is to see if there is a Anglo-Polish society in your area, because they might be able to help.I did this a few years ago when I had to write a letter to Poland. Also there are many Polish people living and working in this country and if you could track some of those down they could translate fro you.

Googling I notice that there is an Anglo-Polish society in Bristol, which is not too far from you. I found this on the Bristol University website :-

"the lecture has been organised in association with the University of Bristol Polish Society, PolSoc, and the Anglo-Polish Society of Bristol and the Southwest Anglo-Polish Society under the patronage of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Bristol."

So there are lots of avenues to try there.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Trisontana, thanks for that suggestion. You are right, there are lots of Polish people in my area (not too far from refugee camp during the war) and I have asked a friend who is also a local counsellor and 'in-the-know'.

If that fails I will try the Bristol area - not too far.

    Many thanks.

  • Hello
This might solve your problem, there is a Polish Housing Society near Pwllheli in North Wales. Try giving them a ring Tel: 01758 613825 It is a kind of Polish retirement camp. They are lovely people and the camp manager may be able to help.

We have some Polish builders doing some work for us at the moment. I'm sure they wouldn't mind translating. PM me the text or reply to it and I'll try and get you a translation....
