I bought some silicon muffin trays ages ago.
    They are truely fabulous.
Nothing sticks to them :j when you are baking

But the thing I love them most for, is freezing :D
I put portions of curry, chilli, soup, whatever in them, when they are frozen, I bag them.
Its sooo easy to take out the right portion size, for what ever hunger level you are at that day :D

Does anyone know if melted chocolate sticks to silicon - would I need to grease the cases before I put it in? I'm planning on making sweets for presents for Christmas.
    Thanks! :)

I made mars cupcakes last night, and the chocolate sticks a tiny bit - but comes off in seconds. I wouldn't bother greasing myself. Or you could grease most of them and leave one or two without as quality control (or is it just me does nutty things like that? !)

has anyone seen the silicone stuff on qvc? I really want the rolling pin and cooking board thing. Blimmin genius - it looks amazing. My mum gave me her silicone stuff so I have been lucky (although why she bought bun cases etc when she has never baked before in her life.:rotfl: (addiction methinks)

Worth mentioning that Lidl have shaped silicone bakeware from time to time. I've had a tray with six rose-shaped moulds and have seen Disney characters, Winnie The Pooh and festive ones too. Look out on their website for forthcoming 'specials'.

The character ones were gorgeous but I couldn't justify spending £6 per character mould!

  • I've been thinking of getting some of these for a while, but presumably once cupcakes have been cooked you take them out. Don't they get a bit bashed in cake tin? What about icing them. I must make runny icing because if I didn't have the paper to catch it in, it would be all over the place! Also if you batch cook then they wouldn't be really practicle as you'd have to keep washing and re-using them.

I'll have keep on thinking about them as I'm not 100% sure these are for me. I've loads of cake/bun/loaf tins so if they were to be replaced with the silicone ones, then to me that would be a waste of money as I've had these tins years, infact some of them were my mums that she had for years - and she died 25 years ago!

Thanks OP I have ordered one for myself and one for my boss. I was looking at these for a while. I have to get my boss for secret santa and she loves cakes but has spent the last few months on weight watchers so she can eat what she wants at xmas. She also has 2 young girls as well so Im sure she will appreciate it!

  • Margaret52129 - I leave the cakes in the silicone cases, the same as you would a paper case, so any icing is caught just as it would normally would be. Then just wash them up when the cakes have been eaten. I also have a large square silicone cake 'tin' which is really great for weetabix brownies(yum yum!) etc. I find its really easy to get the cakes out-it's great!
