Fly and Cruise to New York

Options
I would like to fly out to New York and come back to UK by sea but have no idea how to look for the best deal. Is it best to package it from one operator or make separate arrangements for each bit myself?
July/August this year and also require decent hotel in NY for about a week.

You have the QM2 that sails out of NY on the 5th and 17th July with someone like http://www.1st4cruising.com/ it works out to £944 (with flight to NY) but with the really good dollar exchange at the moment somone like http://www.cruise411.com might be better if you want to talior make your own stay.
A good site for checking for the cheapest hotels is http://www.travelaxe.com/NewSite/Information_Overview.asp and flights http://travel.mobissimo.com/travel/search_airfare.php
From a quick look round some crusie sites there doesnt seem to be anyone else sailing out of NY back to the UK in July
If you go to http://www.vacationstogo.co.uk ( you will have to register) and click the sailing from bar click NY any port it will give you a few sailing on NCL and Carnival but they are round trips back in NY
    Such as this one

Thu Jul 7 New York City, NY   5:00pm
    Fri Jul 8 At Sea
    Sat Jul 9 Halifax, Canada  8:00am 6:00pm
    Sun Jul 10 At Sea
Mon Jul 11 New York City, NY
On  Carnival Triumph 7th July price cruise only £239 inside, Balcony £351
Flight from LHR with virgin £437 to JFK 30TH June to 11th July
Add a weeks stay from the 30th June at a 2-3 star hotel starting from 631 dollars
Best way is to find the cheapest flight then us vacationstogo.com to fit the crusie round it, or a package on the QM2 which might work out expensive
Just a quick guide to let you know whats out there happy hunting
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel

I would think the package would be the best deal. I'm not an expert on cruises, but I have certainly never seen a decent one way airfare between the UK and the USA. The cruise operator will buy the plane tickets in bulk so should be able to get a much better price than you would.

Probably got enough air miles for the flights so it is just the hotel in NY and sea passage back.
Point taken though :D Perhaps a good all-in package might save the airmiles for another day.
