Apparently people who are in debt are going without food, fuel or heating in order to pay off creditors. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/8355815.stm
Do you agree? Is this what is happening?
I'll await commenting on this until tomorrow. I'll let you lot have fun with it for now...
I dont think anyone on here has the knowledge to agree or disagree .Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
time for a land grab. no need to starve if you can grow your own.
slightly on a tangent but i think it's time to make investment land parcels illegal. they make land totally valueless in real terms - no planning permission to build on and not useable for food creation. britain is supposed to be increasing its food production and reducing its food waste - don't see how this helps. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

I don't see how you can make it illegal. People are entitle to make very long term high risk ''investments'' or spend money foolishly. However I agree its a stupid thing to buy and potentially damaging to the economy at large and most certanly damaging to the rural enconmy, and indeed, normal land for development sales.0 -

I doubt its a huge problem. Most of the IVAs / DMPs etc are really quite generous on the personal allowances aren't they?
Perhaps if you're not on an organised plan you might get bullied into paying a higher amount than you can really afford by the debt collectors though I guess? We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung

I didnt say you couldnt, tell pasturesnew that, she is the one who revels in eating crap cheap food she found in supermarket bins while she sits on a fortune in cash. she is a modern day scrooge.
are there no workhouses are there no debtors prisons, says ScroogeNew. she is always going on about how hard her life is and has no empathy whatsoever for other people, who have a lot less money than her and have more mouths to feed, to provide shelter for and to clothe. not for them the possibility to laze about all day not working while moaning about being poor, there too busy holding down crappy jobs to put food on the table.
I'm sorry but that is just downright nasty.
PN does have some empathy, it may not be to 'normal' standards but that is because of her speshulness (yes I do know it is spelt incorrectly).
Her thrift is because of not wanting to spend the nest egg which will provide a home for herself in her later years/when she has found somewhere to settle, it also provides her a way of not burdening the state by taking any kind of benefits.
Fear of spending the capital which may be needed in the future does not make her a bad person worthy of ridicule or nastiness. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I think that women should be supported until they physically able to return to the workplace, in just the same way as anyone sick receives statutory sick pay. But basically once their minges have healed, the ladies should be back at work and paying their taxes.
With this type of posting history, I wouldn't take the comments to heart.
It's a he.
Picking on PN is not a 'good look' BTW and her Speshulness may bring out things you disagree with but you can disagree with someone without being personal.
The OP by LJ is right for some though. If you have no safety net (family/friends) then you do what needs to be done.
I do think it's possible to eat much better on a smaller budget but you have to have the time and skills to make it tasty. Indian cooking from scratch is a great way to live on veg, lentils and potatoes.0 -
If you are that badly skint then dfw is a brilliant place to get ideas.
You have a home phone and internet , and a mobile then theres cuts straight way.You smoke/drink daily then stop. You sit in the house all day in t shirts and cant afford the heating , i dont need to state the obvious. You have two cars then have one.You have problems feeding your kids then perhaps you should have considered the size of your brood a bit better.
The problem here is you have those that truly are in debt just to live , not for buying stuff for wants but for need , but are grouped with those that should never have been allowed credit and what those really want is let off to start it all over again.
As for pastures new she , i think its a she , knows how to live life with an occasional luxuiry , paid for with sacrificing something else. Some of us were brought up that credit is for emergencies , if it is a luxury or treat then sacrifcing and or saving was the only way(other than sexual favours)...not merely gaining credit , blaming the banks for charges on over spending or giving credit in the first place , then an iva or bankruptcy.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -

A neighbour of mine once turned up at my door lateish one night to ask if she could borrow a candle. Said she was having problems with her power supply.
Turned out the problem was she had no cash to put in her prepayment thingy.
She is a single parent with two very young children and works in a care home for minimum wage. She is in debt to just about everyone and was struggling desperately to meet all the payments.
She is on a DMP now but I am not sure that things are that very much better for her and her kids. She just doesn't earn enough and I imagine that's why she got into debt in the first place.
BTW For those who feel inclined I would rather not read fourteen posts about how she should have been sending her kids to school dressed from the jumble sale with two jam sandwiches in their lunchboxes. So lets take it as a given:rolleyes:Retail is the only therapy that works0
