Online Booking - flight cancellation rights?

Options
Hi (and help!)

Just on the off chance - does anyone know whether there are any consumer rights to cancel flights within a certain period and be entitled to a refund when the booking is made online?

 I don´t think there is and I´ve tried looking - the website will allow me to change the flight date only (but not destination) for an extra 28pounds per person but was just hoping someone out there might know a loophole that would get me a refund (I booked with a debit card).

Fingers crossed & any advice greatly appreciated!

  • As far as I am aware (without double checking in my law book at work!) transport is excluded from Distance Selling cancellation rights, so sorry but nope!

  • Something like this happened to us during the summer after there was a mix up with our accomodation dates. Air France said there was no refund but we could reclaim the tax if we decided not to take up the flights. The tax actually amounted to a sizeable portion of what was a very reasonable fare. In the event, we were able to rebook our accomodation to coincide with the flights. Don't know if this info helps.

The tax issue is certainly a help - and does ammount to quite a large protion of the price. :T

Apparently, Jet2 charge 40pounds administration fee (per case) to refund any taxes:

"You may apply in writing to us for a refund of Air Passenger Duty (APD) if a ticket has not been used. However, in all cases, we charge an administration fee of 40GBP/ 60EUR/ 92CHF/ 200CZK/ 480NOK/ 240PLN for each booking requiring a refund." Jet2 website

  • Does anyone know what proportion of the "taxes" section of your flight costs is made up of APD though.

I have a question - is APD transferable? I need to change a name on a flight, but surely it would be cheaper to but a new seat, without APD, then cancel the original seat, After all why else would they charge for them separately?

I am not aware of any airline that would allow you to do this.
    Gone ... or have I?
