Good pet hair vacuum

Can anyone help? My 2nd hand ebay bargain Dyson has decided to give up the ghost and i really need a new vacuum cleaner. I have a cat that sheds so am wonderign if anyone has used one of these specific 'pet hair' remover type vacuum cleaners and if they are worth the money you pay for them?

I am ideally looking at spending under £70 on a new machine but don't really know where to start.....any recommendations would be ace

I was going to suggest the Miele Cat & Dog which I have but unfortunately it comes nowhere near your budget. Sorry I can't comment on any other make but the Miele is very good. Only thing I can think of is googling for pet hair vacs and then looking for reviews.

3 furry cats and 5 years later , I would strongly recommend the Miele cat & Dog - it will save you money in the long run replacing other vac's that cant take the pace!
  • I have the Bissell one, with 2 Maine Coons it does the job really well!

We have the bissell one, the miele cat and dog, and the henry with the cat and dog attachment.
I think that the bissell one is the best for picking up dirt and hair out of carpet but the belt does fall off around once per month and it is heavy so we keep it downstairs. We got ours when they were on the £50 offer.
The miele is good on flat floors and easier on the stairs but not as good at picking up hair on carpet as the bissel. It also fills a couple of expensive bags each week, very heavy, and cost us £180!!
If i could only afford one vac for both floors i'd pick the Henry. It's the lightest, and moves around easiest, bouncing off walls without damage, you can use it bagless, bigger and cheaper bags than the miele, lighter for moving up/down stairs and is very robust, good in the garage/outside in the car, although not quite as good as the agricultural bissel for pulling hair/dirt out of carpet. Many commercial companies use henrys because they go on forever. Think it cost us £80 and i was given the pet attachment.
Dysons have always impressed me at 1st but dissapoint me later and need servicing.
Many with have an opinion based on their own vac but i have all 3, and used to have 4 before chucking out the last dyson.
  • I deliberated for months between the Miele and the Henry and eventually went for the Miele because there were no offers on the Henry at the time.
As is usual, there are now offers on the Henry!
Just looked at the leaflet Homebase sent me this week and it will be £76.49 on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th November.
Currently £99 on their website so a significant saving and not too far over your budget.
    Nectar points as well!
  • Another option - Dyson will give your old cleaner a full service for £69. It includes any replacement parts needed (including the motor) so might be worth considering (it's the enviromentally freiendly option too!) Or maybe you could try to fix it yourself? Try asking at the Dyson forum (https://www.dysonforum.com). Spare parts for Dysons are not too expensive and easy to get hold of.

We have the Miele cat and dog and I love it - not got our dog now but have got rabbits and guineas even with them being outside Im always finding hay/fur inside and this works wonders.

My Mum is after a new vac so thinking of a Henry as she does not like the Miele as it is too heavy for her. Have used Henrys in Holiday homes and they seem a bit lighter to move round.

We got a small electrolux to use upstairs but cant stand it doesnt get the bits up:rolleyes:
