Do you have UPVC windows? I assume these type of locks can be fitted to any frame material? My glass is half full :beer:0 -
We had UPVC windows fitted in January and the fitters put a special child restrictor on our DD's window (4). This only partially opens the window, however it can be clicked across to open fully if necessary.
Can't see how it would be difficult for them to fit something like this.0 -

Our windows in this house are the wood type double glazed but in our other house we had similar locks on the UPVC
This is what we have now

but I know there is similar for other windows, hopefully Anglia can help. The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
We have these windows from anglian and i am sure as standard they do as ours, which is that the handle can put down shut and locked if necessary with the windows about an inch open. Obviously this is no good if you need more air but we keep our sons room on this vent all year round locked with the key and if we need more air in the house we open other windows
I harrassed the hell out of the sales guy and fitters that they would do this or i wouldn't be interested with two little ones, and they assured me all anglian windows do it
hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. Yes, they do have a ventilation catch, but as summer seems to have arrived, (well, at least it did yesterday!) they needed to open all the upstairs windows more than an inch.
Like most kids our granddaughter goes into her parents bedroom sometimes in the morning especially at weekends, and it would only take a moment if say, one parent was getting a drink and the other had gone for a wee, for a tragic accident to happen, so I think personally, all upstairs windows need to be made safe.
Will let you know if Anglian can help! My glass is half full :beer:0 -
We've just replaced our double glazing recently, and due to our concerns re: safety, the window company put on safety catches on all upstairs windows (even on the older UPVC windows at the rear of the house) They're brill to be honest and do put your mind at ease! They can be over-ridden easily (by an adult) but the kids would have difficulty! Well worth the money!!!!!!:D20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100
