3 months notice

Afternoon all,
I was just wondering if someone can help me please?
My job is not very secure at the moment as I work for a small firm and currently the overheads are more than the money coming in. I was told yesterday that if the company cant be turned around in 3 months I will be out of a job as they cant afford to pay me.
Does this mean they have given me my 3 months notice? I think that is the amount of time they have to give me. I have been working here full time for 4 and a half years. Or do they have to provide me with 3 months notice in writing.
Also are there any good websites I can check out what my rights are, what I am entitled to etc. I am not in any sort of union.
Many thanks

Unless your contract specifies more you are entitled to a week's notice for each complete year of service - ie 4 weeks in your case

might be of help - browse around the other pages as well.
Not sure where your 3 months comes from - but I don't think you have yet been given notice.0 -
Given what you have written, comments are included in the quote below:Afternoon all,
My job is not very secure at the moment as I work for a small firm and currently the overheads are more than the money coming in. I was told yesterday that if the company cant be turned around in 3 months I will be out of a job as they cant afford to pay me. It seems to me that they are giving themselves three months to get the company back into a profitable state. If at that time it hasn't been achieved, they would then need to give you notice.
Does this mean they have given me my 3 months notice? No it means they are hoping to turn it round in the three months. I think that is the amount of time they have to give me. If your contract says you are due 3 months notice then that is what you would be due. But I would expect that you are due one week for each completed year of service and therefore you are due 4 weeks paid notice. I have been working here full time for 4 and a half years. Or do they have to provide me with 3 months notice in writing. They would need to give you four weeks' notice in writing when the decision was made that the company could not continue. It has not given you notice yet.
Also are there any good websites I can check out what my rights are, what I am entitled to etc. I am not in any sort of union.

Just to tie this up, you have to be placed "at risk" and go through consultation in regard to redundancy, irrespective of the number of people affected by redundancy. You should be advised in writing and given the opportunity to discuss alternatives to redundancy beforethe redundancy takes place. If the Company has not done this then I cannot see that you are now working your notice with a hope of work picking up in the interim.
If, say in 2 weeks, you are called in for the discussion, then any consultation would start then. They cannot retrospectively give you notice, ie tell you that your notice started two weeks before the consultation period commenced - fails in fairness in so many areas.
NB -If they are going to make more than 20 posts redundant (but less than 100) then you would have 30 days consultation. 100 staff or more and it is 90 days consultation.0
