Fluorescent Light Tripping System

I recently changed the light in garage from normal bulb to
Fluorescent light fitting. There was no earth connection on the fitting and so I just connected the two wires with no earth. Since the change my RCD cuts the lights off, more so when I turn the light of. Could the lack of earth connection be causing this, if so, do I just connect the earth wire from the ceiling to the body of the
Fluorescent light.

Yes should connect the earth to the body of the fitting ( if its metal). As for the fault, it sounds like you have maybe trapped the cable or screwed into the cable, when you put the fitting up.

In a lot of fluorescent fittings the earth connector is a little raised flap of metal punched up from the main body of the fitting. The mains cable coming in, is terminated in a three way terminal block and the little flap of metal goes into the middle terminal of the block, with the live and neutral wires on either side. If you do not have this flap then just join the incoming earth to the casing with a nut and bolt or a self tapping screw. I think that most fittings say that they should be earthed, but I forget whether this is just general electrical safety advice or something to do with the functioning of the circuit.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
