Advice on new PCs

Was wondering if someone could help point me in the right direction for a new PC?
I am trying to buy my better half a PC for her bday.
We have a lcd 21" monitor with our laptop so dont need a monitor or keyboard just a good PC.
Was wondering what the best place to go to get a HT or Dual core one for £400-450ish would be?

First of all take a step back and think about the PCs use, Media Centre Type PC I mean gaming music video picture editing or more of a lower spec just for surfing and writing letters type PC, bear this in mind as the price will vary quite a bit.

quincy thanks for the reply.
I dont need media centre just xp will be fine have my own legitimate discs so dont even need anything installed.
I would need at least 512mb ram and a 128-bit graphics card dont mind if the cpu is amd or intel but would want at least ht so intel p4 530 or above or amd equivalent.
have checked a few sites including dell but most sell monitors etc included which increases price!!!0
