A&L sucessful claim?

Hello there,

after having successfully reclaimed over £1000 for my partner a few years ago, we have just submitted a claim to Alliance & Leicester for £1300.

He doesnt work at the moment as he is finishing a course, which will hopefully give him better job prospects come 2010. He is also on a DMP, paying over £275 per month, which I effectively pay for. Issue is that after bils we have hardly any money left over to enjoy life once in a blue moon. As he is out of work, but still has DMP committments and has been refused JSA or any other benefits (we live together bu aren't married and I have to pay for everything, which I think is fundamentally wrong), we have claimed under the hardship rules.

My question really is, if people have successfully claimed from Alliance & Leicester, as I have seen many stories mentioning every other bank but A&L.

My initial gut feeling reading what you have said is that they will decline the Financial hardship claim on the basis that there is no priority debt arrears(mortgage or rent, council tax, utilities) and there is a surplus albeit small at the end of each month.
Does he have credit cards, store cards, catalogue accounts within that DMP that he can reclaim from?

    Credit cards.

Well, I just dont agree with the fact that although you are not married, it is assumed that I person is happy to pay for everything, while the other is out of work. There is no council tax or mortgage arrears because I pay for it all rather then splitting it 50:50.

Should have added that we are expecting a baby, so maye that is seen as some sort of urgency to repay the debt asap.

It is irrelevant whether you are married, living in sin, cohabitating, or living in a commune, it is whether the arrears will mean you losing the house, your liberty or you essential utilities. Financial hardship is about household hardship. However, when you do go on maternity leave and the income drops you might start to creep into that category.
And reclaim the lot on credit card charges.

    Hi there,
we have not had any response whatsoever to the aforementioned letter, which we went to A&L.
Should we press them for an answer?

Yes but leaving it 3 months might not necessarily mean that you are in financial hardship.
