Just to boast I just ordered a 43 inch widescreen 100hz rpjtv from currys , £634 in del , thanks to you guys.

As for hd tv guys how long has 16-9 been getting transmitted in the uk , and less than 20 percent of main programming is using it , and someone is asking about hdtv.

Save your hdtv cash , its not any good for a at least 4 years and if its like widescreen youll have very little to watch.Anyway youll proably renew in 4 years , and maybe by then it will be more adopted than "a true" widescreen output by the tvcos.

absolutely. i was just going to post something similar on the other plasma thread. let the retailers sweat and bring they're (i predict) ridiculous prices down!! :P
Multi-tasking is a way of ensuring you don't enjoy any of them.
  • I looked at this TV in Comet about a month ago. It was running a HD demo from a plugin box and the picture did look wonderful. I asked for it to be switched to the onboard analogue tuner and saw the same rolling demo that the other screens were showing and the picture was pretty awful.

I mentioned this Sagem TV at this forum a couple of months back. With the HD feed from the hard disk of a computer, it looks amazing, provided you have some source material, if only for demo purposes, e.g. import a digital VHS deck and some HD tapes from the USA.

With a UK broadcast signal input, it is no wonder the picture quality looks poor. It is poor. The source resolution is the limiting factor. Digital techniques to create the illusion of a higher quality picture cannot be the answer.

I will ensure any future TV I buy has at least the resolution of that Sagem, whether it be LCD, CRT, rear projection or Plasma. Anything less would be a short term waste of money because you'll only face another upgrade in a year or two's time.

You might be right, but what a sad situation we find ourselves in, here in the UK as the supposed 4th largest economy in the world.

I saw pictures at least equal to the present (Comet) Sagem HD picture, in Tokyo, at the Sony downtown showroom back in 1988. Yes, 1988. Here 17 years later in 2005, and for several years past, the Japanese and USA have enjoyed a certain amount of HD broadcasts through cable or whatever.

In 2003, I revisited Tokyo. HD TV sets are found in most department stores, etc. The cathode ray tube or plasma sets give a picture significantly sharper/clearer even than the Comet/Sagem set, which is saying something.

The UK is the poor relation. I blame our backwards looking Government who prefer to spend our tax money on Iraq.

Once you've seen HDTV, any normal TV, even most 42" plasma monitors fed from a DVD, are a poor substitute.

    Regards
    George
