Quick wash on a Zanussi 1000?

ANYONE got any ideas here?
Being a bit of an ecofreak, I do all my washes on a quick wash, economy rinse. Or try to. We recently bought a new washing machine for the house only for my partner to lose the instruction manual as we were packing up stuff for the loft.
We do have a quick wash button, but when we press it, the little green light flashes three times and then nothing happens. I don't like having to do a full wash for my clothes when a quick wash suffices.
Anyone got any clues?
