false ugg boots

Hi. I went on the an uk uggs boots website and ordered some cheap uggs. I had been told about sale uggs by a friend, but appear to have got on the wrong website by mistake. They have come but are not real and do not fit. There appears to be no address to return them to as the paperwork is in Chinese! Do I just write this money off, nearly £175, or do I have any recall from my Visa Debit card (I did use the extra authorisation to approve the payment).

Any advice would be great. Jx

Not a great deal you can do. Speak to your card provider.
  • Whoa! £175 should surely have got you the real deal! Could you go back on the website you ordered them from and look at the Terms and Conditions?

Speak to your card provider and ask for them to do a debit card chargeback. However you only have 120 days from date of purchase or the date it was due to be delivered. Tell them the full story.

If they say no, or refuse to pay you then contact the CEO of your bank directly (as I did - see my other thread). I contacted Mr Varley of Barclays saying please investigate my case for me as nothing is happening and don’t pass me back to "someone in customer service". Today I received a call from his team saying they have refunded the amount with some goodwill gesture payment aswell.

    Hope this helps.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it ....
  • This'll be another Chinese scam fake Ugg/GHD/Timberland etc etc site then. Realistically the only option you will have to through your card company/bank, but as it is a Debit card you have to remember that the Chargeback option isn't anything in law like the Credit Card option would be.

For future reference, when buying something like this where quite a lot of money is involved, it can be handy to check the actual site of the real manufacturer to see if they have a list of dodgy sites (I know GHD do this), and also try a WHOIS search online to see if the website is reg in China. Not saying that every single Chinese site is dodgy, but it might be worth looking around until you find a UK one as at least then you'll be covered by our laws a bit more (although if they are scam ones they won't give a monkeys about the law anyway!)
