Eating less to make savings??

Anyone eat less meals in order to economise??
I try to stick to one decent meal and keep things simple. I dont have much of an appetite anyway esp not after the flu.
Cutting back on frills obv OS...like coffees and unnecessary snacks, desserts all those things. However anyone downscaled with meals also?
Wondering if its just me being nutty

I wish! Maybe I should do that, I would save money and lose weight at the same time.
It is an interesting question though. I would guess that quite a few people eat the same amount but compromise on price (e.g. downshifting brands).
Rebekah24, you should write a new diet book - Thrifty and Thin!

No way, I love food. I will buy cheaper brands, look for bargains etc but will always buy what I like to eat. Do try not to buy too many cakes etc but that's more due to not wanting to get fat than moneysaving.:rolleyes:There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0

it depends what you mean by eat less. If it has stopped you buying frivilous foods and coffees out, then I have stopped that on the main (although everyone deserves a treat). If travelling for example i take a batch of flapjacks and loads of sandwiches so no expensive airport prices.
I wouldnt leave myself hungry to save money though. Not a chance. I would stop the odd night out or cable tv before i would downscale my food. That's the last thing to go!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

My sister goes thru this often the week before pay day. i hav stayed at her house and there is literally nothing in the cupboards or fridge. i get quite worried/annoyed with her. sometimes she lives off ovaltine and toast for days on end.
I end up doin a shop b4 i go round now as i kno wat shes like. she is always very grateful but shes not in any debt she just chooses to live in a posh area of london and buy expensive shoes!. Not very MSE!0 -
I mean having a main meal in the evening, otherwise sticking to hot tea, water, squash.

My only concern about only eating one meal a day would be making sure you are getting enough nutrients - there's not much nutrition in squash or tea, and none at all in water!
Cutting out snacks and desserts may not be a bad thing in itself, but you need to ensure you are getting enough food to keep yourself healthy - particularly with winter coming up and even more particularly as you have just been ill.
Look after yourself, please - there's nothing money saving about making yourself ill!
Back after a very long break!0 -
I am keeping up the orange juice & vitamin c
Thanks for the concern

I would never miss meals to save money. What I do for us all is to make cheap, filling but good for you things like soup for lunch, or we'll have any leftovers from the previous evenings meal if somebody hasn't been in to eat theirs etc. I also make hot breakfasts like porridge or pancakes as again they're reasonably cheap and filling.
Don't make yourself go hungry during the day to save money get out the red lentils, some carrots & onion and make a big pan of soup that'd last all week

To be honest this is mainly how I eat anyway. I'll occasionally have porridge for breakfast, don't often eat lunch, and only eat a meal at night. I drink gallons of tea though. This isn't because of trying to lose weight (I wish I could though ) or saving money, I only eat when I'm hungry.0 -
we have our 3 main meals a day but i know if i had gottn 2 packs of whoopsied meat with say 4 pieces of meat in each,,instead of opening the 2 packs i'd freezo one,,and maybe have a tiny piece of meat for myself and everyon else would have there norm,,they dont notice that i do this of course:)Dont cry because it's over,
Smile because it happened.
