    As a next step - remember to tell the Canadian Revenue Agency that this money exists and how you came to be in possession of it. Keep the documents relating to house sale and transfer. Otherwise in a year or so they'll come asking for tax on it.

    How long is it since you became a Canadian resident (date of landing not date of emmigration)? The reason for asking is I seem to remember you only have a year window for this type of transfer (if you didn;t previously warn the CRA) before they treat it as income anyway.

    You probably want to check with a financial advisor over there to make sure all is good.
