CV joints on a Peugeot 106?

Well as the Ferrari is a weekend car, my little Peugeot 106 is my week car getting me to and from work.
Its an N reg and in good nick generally but I have noticed over the alst few days a loud clunking noise coming from what seems to be near the steering when I am turning or gonig round a roundabout.
Someone at work mentioned it could be the CV joints need replacing. I have googled the symptoms (well, clunking 106;)) and it came up with pretty similar things to what my work colleague mentioned.
Please can someone tell me how much roughly it would cost to do this? I know a bit about cars but not loads and I dont want to get ripped off!
thank you x

If you can afford to run a Ferrari, just take the 106 to Peugeot and don't worry about it. It will be alot less than the service on your other car.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. erm, I dont really have a ferrari mate0

i would also consider that it could be a 'drop link'
£11 to buy and is a diy job, these are consumable parts and are designed to ware0 -
Replace a cv joint about £80 to £100 from a non main dealer garage. The part will be about £15 or so. If it's knocking when going around corners then it's most likely a cv joint.
If its banging when going over pot holes or bumps in the road then it's most likely a drop link.
My money is on CV joint from the description.0 -
thanks guys! I will book into the garage.
It seems fine going over speed bumps and over potholes, definitely CV joints then. I dont know anyone unfortunately who can do it for me so garage it is!0 -

Admittedly I don't really know much about the peugeot 106, but most cv joints on modern cars are an integral part of the driveshafts. A quick look suggests these are about £60+ each from a pattern supplier.
It appears the £10-£15 previously suggested is just the cost of the rubber bellow!
(unless it is the drop link, not the CV, as also mentioned)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
It might also be a wheel bearing which can give off some astounding noises when they start to go, or maybe just the CV boot as oppose to the actual joint. The CV boots wear out eventually and leak grease which means the CV joint isn't lubricated properly which can make it clunk - I had this exact issue with my old Celica. There was also a terrible, awful squealing noise, which turned out to be the worn CV boot rubber rubbing on itself.
New CV boots are only about £12 each including the grease - the expense comes from the labour as the wheel, brakes etc has to come off and the drive shaft removed and the old boot forced/cut off to replace which is a real dirty fiddly job.
have a look see if theres any escaping grease/lubricant from the CV boot.0
