Whinge alert....
four years ago my academic boss left the department and since then I've been without a specific academic fighting first for me - there's been four who have probably fought for me second in their priorities and I've felt this has put me at a disadvantage (certainly in the pay and progression stakes). It's taken seven months of maternity leave to fully work this out!
Uni-funding is looking dodgy and cutbacks are likely but I'm not feeling inclined to go back to it. I phoned my old senior lecturer and discussed that cutbacks are likely and that jobs in my year are likely to be reviewed but that some new opportunities are in the pipeline (these won't be advertised, more people will be suggested for the roles), but others are already earmarking me for their own support needs and this might not be in my best interest.
I want to be in charge of my own destiny (ok career) rather than be at the mercy of other people who haven't put my needs first.
So tomorrow I'm going in for a management meeting and then I'm going to speak with a "mover and shaker" to talk things through (find out about these new opportunities and make sure he knows to consider me for them)!DFW Nerd Club #545 Dealing With Our Debtnever attribute anything to malice which can be adequately explained by stupidity, [paranoia or ignorance] - ZTD&[cat]

Thanks Scaredy - well as I thought I had put on. It was a pound and to be honest I was expecting more! You are right, I have to totally be 'in the zone' and when I am, I am really focussed, but I just have to get there first.
I have paid for a countdown, so still have a couple of weeks to go on that and I am hoping I will find my way again soon!OD [STRIKE] £2600 [/STRIKE] £0 :j Loan [STRIKE]£9500.00[/STRIKE] £0 :j Car [STRIKE]£3150[/STRIKE] £0 :j Moving Costs [STRIKE]£1300[/STRIKE] £0 :j Savings £1150 :j
