Getting Capital One card delivered

A courier firm is delivering my Capital One card because they need to see ID. They wrote to me because I wasn't in (funny that, mid-week). So I booked a re-delivery for today, waited in all day (it's sooo nice outside aswell!!!) and NOTHING arrived  I just phoned them on there 0870 number, was on hold for 10 min, then someone took my ref number and put me on hold again for 10 min, then someone else took my ref number! Total of 20 min and was told the delivery failed today. But I haven't left the house!!! I'm mad. All they would do is book another delivery day, so I can stay in again. Just had to get this off my chest.

That's strange LMM - I've had a Capital One card for around 6 months now. That just dropped through the letter box with all the other post. Maybe they've tightened up their procedures.
Don't forget to check www.saynoto0870.com before using 0870/0845 numbers. Hate to tell you now but there's a freephone entry for Capital One Credit card Customer services (0800 9522255).Wearing my other one today.0 -
Hiya. Thanks for your reply, but it was the courier people I had to phone not Capital One. I wish they would just stick it in the normal post!

My partner has been with Capital One for 5 years and is given the Premier card with 29.9% apr and comes through the door via the postie.
Are you a Platinum cutomer?:A
The cards are not 'live' until you phone and activate them, but wonder if they treat their customers differently?

The courier needs to see ID. The issuer is obliged to verify you name and address for Anti Money Laundering reasons. The can do this in a number of ways, essentially:
1. You are an exiting customer who has already been verified
2. They can check your ID against credit bureau records
3. They need to see documentary evidence of your name and address
When the issuer needs to see documents, they will usually write to you and request that you send these in before they can open the account. However, this presents a problem to the issuer because it increases the risk that you will simply decide it's too much hassle and will fail to complete the application - this is known in the trade as breakage. By sending the courier, they can get him to check your ID when he hands over the card.
The other reason why cards are despatched by courier is to provide secure delivery to high risk addresses. However, this is quite rare now because most issuers use "hard activation" - you have to ring in and activate your account before it can be used. This reduces the risk of a card being used fraudulently if it is intercepted in the post.
As a matter of interest, how did you apply for the card - did you send in a completed and signed application form, or did you apply over the phone/internet? Assuming the latter, did they send you a credit agreement in the post, or is the courier going to bring it with him for you to sign? The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.0 -
How much do Capital One actually want your business?
Is it worth calling them and kicking up a fuss?
I know it's the courier, but they are in the employ of Cap One. You've been massively inconvenienced by them. Time to start getting mediaeval with Cap One. If it was me, I'd tell them where to insert their card......Everyone needs something to believe in.

I wouldn't do anything hasty like that. Or not if it's a card with a nice long 0% deal anyway...DFW Nerd 0350 -
I would tell them where to stick their card but I really need to build a credit history so I am not really in a position to do that. They have been useless from day one though - I applied online about 2 months ago and am still waiting. They have even sent two letters to the wrong address  even though I and phoned and wrote to correct them after the first time! I have returned the credit agreement aswell as the requested utility bills and bank statements.
I emailed the courier company to make a complaint and they phone me book another delivery. I have already done that - I want an explanation for the first "failed" delivery! Arghh they are clueless. If it does not turn up on this new day I will phone Cap One and let them know what I think of their service.

I had reason to phone my credit card company a couple of months ago. I was kept waiting on their premium rate number for half an hour. I wrote a letter to their Customer Service Dept complaining. They credited my card £10 which more than covered the cost of the call. Give it a go!!!Debt Free!!!0
