Sky's poor 'existing' customer service

Hey all,
This weekend just gone we had a power cut, after the power was restored our Sky box decided to stop working and would no longer read our viewing card, So I then proceeded to ring sky and they sent out a replacement, this turned up yesterday and consequently does not work either.
With all this is in mind, on another forum someone gave me a code to join the free sky+ offer for new customers. Having been reliably informed existing customers could also get sky+ in this offer the forum user then me an invite via Sky's website to Join via their recommend a friend offer, And so upon receiving the email I then consequently rang the phone number in the email I received from Sky .
However after speaking to at least 4 or 5 departments at Sky and at least 2hours on the phone the best they could offer me was a free service call (Due to and I quote their words "the credit crunch") to repair or replace our current 6 year old Amstrad Sky Digital box with a reconditioned one.
Considering I have been a long standing customer for the past 6 years on one of there premium packages at £48.50 a month and when I joined Sky 6 years ago there was no offer(s) just a plain vanilla install of sky at whatever the installation charge was back then (For note it was just a simple visit to Currys said we wanted sky and that was it, no offer no nothing just arranged a set-up date), .If this is how I am treated as a loyal customer to Sky after all these years then I find this extremely poor customer service as I have never been offered anything before (The woman I spoke to at customer services, even confirmed this!) and when they do its a very poor offer in comparison to what they offer to their new customers.
Has anyone else had a similar experience and able to recommend my next step?, cancellation number or anything else you could suggest then it would be greatly appreciated
