SAR for old account? Possible PPI on career development loan

Hi all!

Today I received an offer from HSBC thanks to the information on this website! I am now inspired...

This is an odd one. Approx 8 years ago I took a career development loan with barclays to fund training with a company called AMRAF plc. A few weeks later the company went into the hands of the receivers and I didnt get my training. I tried at the time to complain, wrote letters saying barclays were part liable etc but got nowhere. I paid this loan for several years then almost 5 years ago now I paid it off when I took my HSBC loan.

I dont know if I had PPI (I was young and naive) but if I did I am damn sure it will have been mis sold as I was self employed.

Is it too late to send a SAR to barclays? I have since moved house and I have no original paperwork, no acount numbers and not even the date I took the loan (apart from the year).

Am I wasting my time? Part of me just thinks if I could just get a little bit back from the none training nitemare it would be wonderful. I paid several thousand pounds and recieved only a pen - you can understand I am still a little annoyed!.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Mike

    Hi there Mike

I would definately try requesting a SAR, if they cannot provide it then they should return your payment of £10 and normally a letter to explain the reasons on why they could not supply anything to you.
Do you still have hold of your account numbers?
If not then on the SAR letter, just write everything you can in your personal details, your old address may help as well, give your date of birth. This will make it easier for them to track down your information.

If you complain on the PPI and they do not resolve by 8 weeks, then you can always take your complaint to the financial ombudsman service (FOS).
    For more on reclaiming, here:

Good luck Mike, please keep us posted, hope this is resolved.

  • thanks for the reply!

I have done the SAR and printed it. Will be in the post tomorrow! I may not even have PPI but there is no doubt I was well and truly stitched up (as were thousands of others). The training provider took payment knowing they were going under, barclays funded this and held us all to the debt for a service we didnt receive. Still makes me sick now, I was 20 and trying to better myself.

I will update this thread as and when I get any news.

    Thanks again!

    Your welcome Mike.;)

It would not surprise me if they did sell this to you without realising it, it was the norm years ago, they always seemed to have automatically added this, so yes I agree an SAR would be useful to find this out.
Good luck with this and we look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, I was with Amraf and had a CDL Loan, I lost about £2000, have you been able to claim back any PPI?

What really annoys me is 8 years on a friend of mine signed up with Advent to do his MCSE and they have gone into Administration. Surprise surprise he had a CDL and has no way of reclaiming the money. He also had no idea that the CDL is an unsecure loan. CDL's have got to come under some sort of missold ruling.
