OP. You do not have to provide a refund at all. If it states it in the auction then, quite frankly, tough.

I know what I would do.............

OP, I wasn't implying that you SHOULD pay the postage, as you described the phone accurately (from what you have said) it seems to me!

I know. As I said I have just starting eBaying, so, I'll have to do what I can to avoid a neg. I don't want to start a dispute or argue with the buyer on who should be paying the postage. I think it's fair that I refund the postage and the buyer pays postage for the return.

This may be my fault but in the description I stated that there were scratches but didnt state that there was a very very small mark on the back of the phone, I myself did'nt realise, the buyer picked up on this as well. However, I used a v.good camera to take pics of the phone (6megapixel), and the mark was highlighted in the picture even though I didnt mention anything about it in the pic. So that may be my fault.

Learning from my mistakes! My sister does'nt know anything about this, YET:o !

Thanks for the helpful advice, really appreciated it!

    what is the item number?

if you described it accuratley, then refuse the refund, or if you want to, accept to refund, less a handling fee to cover all your losses, and don't refund any postage at all

But that would just open another can of worm, won't it? I just don't want a neg, so going £4ish out of pocket does'nt and won't bother me as much as getting a neg. Buyer was very helpful.

I don't want to post the item number on here because then everyone would know our eBay name, not really comfortable with that. I know for a fact that one person on here would do something mischeveous with our username. Not naming names.

    Thanks bleugh.

If you are now saying that it is your fault for not describing the phone accurately then you should refund original postage and packaging and also the cost of the buyer having to return it. Why should the buyer be out of pocket.

Before I said anything, the buyer offered to pay postage......plus it was a minor mark which was highlighted in the pictures that may be the only reason why I can't reclaim the postage......the buyer should let me know by tomorow if he sent it off, it is a 50/50 situation.......I did also state in the auction that no refunds will be accepted, so, me accepting this refund obviously shows my willingness to be a good ebay.

Finally, the buyer is sending the phone via recorded delivery, is that a safe method to use? I always have been using special delivery.

    Thanks,

I'm guessing the phone is worth more than £32? If so, then recorded delivery will be no good as it only covers up to £32. The buyer will need to send it Special Delivery.

Saying that on an auction is irrelevent if the item is 'not as described'

Doesn't matter. It is the buyer's responsibility to get it back to you, and if it gets lost you don't pay the buyer, and the buyer will probably be unable to claim the full cost back (which is limited to £32 I think with recorded).
