  • if you seriously think it won't be used for much and that you'll replace this quickly, I would get a cheap second hand laptop with windows xp. it will probably be better than a poorly speced vista machine and then you could save for a better spec windows 7 machine later.

Shakeeyes21's suggestion looks good - but you have to add on VAT and Delivery.

Plus vista is not going to be great with 1Gig memory.

The cheapest dell I could configure for my mate earlier this week was for £368.99 including tat and delivery - that was Inspirion 1545 I think with Windows 7 - 3gig memory, 250gig hard disk.

The 368.99 was including P4 processor - take that away and get a celeron processor the price was £328.99 - plus you can get about 4% off with quidco.

Can someone advise me? I am looking to get my teenage daughter a laptop for christmas, she will be using it basically for homework, and social networking, she isnt really into games. I have been offered a dell latitude D530 at a good price with following spec
SPECIFICATIONS: INTELL CORE DUO CPU T7250 2GHZ 2GB RAM CD/DVD RE WRITER 80GB HARD DRIVE INTERGRATE WIRELESS 15.4 INCH SCREEN

Are these laptops ok and is the spec ok as I am a complete novice at techni

Hard drive is rubbish but the processor is a reasonable one

    What Operating System?

Celeron processors are rubbish and with 1gb will struggle with Vista Premium.
