Varilux Flush

We had our bathroom refurbished a year ago and the new cistern was fitted with a variable flush (1/2 for a pee, full for a !!!!). This WAS a plastic top centre hole arrangement which promptly broke last week.
I bought a whole new valve of a very similar design (because I could not find anything else) but the fittings are slightly different. This means I cannot just replace the plastic bit so have to replace the full valve.

However, the instructions indicate that you have access to the flush pipe underneath the cistern. I don't without taking the whole cistern off.
Before I spend megga bucks getting in a plumber does anyone know how big or difficult a job this will be?

These normally split in half by twisting. You need to get the identical one to what is already fitted or else the cistern will need removing in order to replace the flush valve!
It is not a big job for a competent diyer and should only take an hour or so!
It is very similar to changing a syphon, there are some instructions half way down This page.0 -
It is slightly different to the one already fitted. Looks like I will need a plumber after all.
