Although catching people who haven't paid their tax is one part of it, I'd say it was a minor part. The police will be more interested in looking for stolen cars, disqualified drivers, those driving without insurance, or a driving licence etc.
  • As said you are wrong.

So how do you know it wasn't one?

An anpr camera is simply that a camera. All the cleaver stuff is on the computer.

I heard or read somewhere where they cannot for instance stand behind trees or street furniture.

True i have not seen an a.n.p.r device I thought they small mobile enough to fit in the police vehicle. I saw a program where the police were sat in their vehicle watching a screen on their dash that alerted them that was the a.n.p.r unit. They then went after a car. They did not get out of their car fold up the tripod put tripod and camera into boot then go after the car. That's why i had a guess that they are not that big
  • While it is Best Practice to be visible, there is no requirement to be. The visibility criteria only really apply to fixed camera sites. A police officer can stand behind a bridge with a speedgun if he so wishes.

Which is where the "6 foot !!!!!!!" joke came from ;)

The sneakiest one I've seen is in Heathfield. The road is 30mph, the housing ends at a farmers field and they set up the trap in the field in between the gate. It's not until you get within 10m of the open gate that you spot them. Luckily I was motoring at 30.

ANPR does just that untaxed vehicles flag up in their car they go stop it 9 times out of ten driver has no mot no insurance no licence carrying drugs or weapons or both. anpr is also present at petrol stations thorugh theyre normal cctv camera's its computer software that does the magic.

Exactly, as I said, it's not non-payment of tax they are particularly interested in, it's everything else that goes with it.

Same as police stopping people not wearing their seatbelt. Chances are if they haven't bothered to put their seatbelt on, they haven't bothered to pass their driving test, pay for insurance...
