Help with survey- Asbestos guttering

The survey report came back saying the joints of asbestos guttering is leaking. I talked to the surveyor who said it's better to replace than to repair. Just wonder anyone has a rough idea how much it's gonna cost to replace the asbestos guttering with upvc, inc removal and disposal of asbestos? the house is 3 bed semi. thanks a lot!!

I'd recommend getting a specialist to come in and give you a quote. Find one (or even better, three) who will do this for free. If you get three quotes, then you can take either the mean or the median value.

Asbestos guttering will be cement bonded so not the bad stuff - I'd be inclined to get someone to take it down for me and then bag it up and take it to the local asbestos recycling dump myself.

No idea on replacement guttering prices - have a chat with the surveyor about it all he will give you sensible advice.
  • thanks for the advice. I rang builders in my area, they seem all charge for 25-85 plus vat for quote as I'm not the owner of the house! and the seller has said they are not prepared to negotiate the price. If it's not too much say less than 1000 to do the job, i will accept it and move forward. The situation now is if I pay for the quote, the seller is unlikely to reduce the price anyway. so if i know roughly how much, i would not bother to get a quote as it won't help me negotiate the price really. hope i explain myself clearly...

If they're insistent on charging for a quote because you don't own the house, ask (or tell) the vendor to get a quote from them. If they still insist on charging, you should again ask/tell the vendor to pay for that quote. At the end of the day, if they lose you as a buyer, they'll only have the same problems again next time!

But then it really depends on your situation; you might not want to risk annoying the vendor if you want something in return, i.e. a quick turnaround time
