am i expecting too much from a compensation?

I had a really bad accommodation experience with topdeck tour which I sent a complain letter to them after the tour. Here is the response from them.

"""I am sorry for the delay in a formal response to your complaint letter below. We have contacted all the various people involved in Greece regarding the incident, so we could find the explanation.

I am very sorry that the incidents occurred while you were on holiday. The Greek Island trip is a very popular one and all teh hotels we work with have had a good reputation for service to our clients over the many years we have worked with them.

The reason why there was no hot water for the entire floor was because of a technical fault and something that was totally out of control of anyone and could happen at any hotel in the world. The next day everyone was moved, and work was carried out to remedy the problem.

The only explanation regarding the bugs must be they came in through the windows from the tree outside the rooms. Thermis(the tour leader) inspected the room the next morning and no bed bugs were found. The room was not treated for bugs and no further incidences of bed bugs have occurred. The owner who is a very experienced hotelier denies that he was rude to you. All he said was that the hotel was full and he did not have a room he could change you to at 4 am in the morning. He said he would sort a room in the morning. This was already underway when Thermis was made aware of the problem. Thermis has confirmed this.

It is unfortunate that these incidents interrupted you stay in Paros, but both situations; the lack of hot water (which effected everyone), and bugs in the room, are both situations which were not controllable by us or the hotel. They were dealt with by the hotel as soon as they were reasonably able to. When travelling we have to accept that sometimes things do happen which are not the caused by neglect or lack of care by anyone.

I do not feel that these warrant a refund, however as a gesture of good will I am prepared to refund one nights accommodation which amounts to 45 Euro

Please let me know how I can refund this to you. """""

I do not satisfy of their response. It sounds to me I am the one who is picky and not understandable. I have paid 675 pounds for the 10 days package (ferry tickets and between four islands and accommodation). The bugs were definitely existed .The tour leader found one on the next day and talked to the hotel owner. It was a lie if there is no bed bugs were found. I even got the video recorded of the bed bugs.
The second thing is that manager was terrible to me and my room-mate. He didn’t apologize to us and shouted at us. I don’t think he can just leave us back to the room as the bugs were biting us anyway. He did nothing at all but walked back to his room. As far as I see, we were not the only customers had difficulty with that owner as I saw he was arguing with the other customers on the next day.
I was so stress and cried the next day, and because of this totally ruined my next day tour as I have to spend the whole day sleeping (I didn’t sleep for the whole evening as I was so scared of the bugs)
The spots from the bed bugs are still over my arms even after a month for my holiday. That’s why I am so angry.

I just want to ask if I ask for too much for the compensation. Do you think I expect too much from the company? Should I write another complain letter regard to this response?

This reminds me of when i was in Vietnam. I saw a lizard on the ceiling of my room. I went and spoke to the front desk who promptly said "The Lizard keeps the Mosquito's away, the Lizard is Harmless the Mosquitos are not"
Do bed bugs fix hot water systems?

If they're corgi registered they might.

But then the OP would be wanting compensation for having an uninsured worker in their room - it is Gas Safe now! ;)

Are you sure they were bed-bugs?

Or were they just some sort of bug that happened to be on/in the bed?
If they weren't BED bugs, they may well have come in from greenery outside.
There's all sorts of insects abroad that we don't see here in the UK.

The lack of hot water issue - as the reply you received says - could happen anywhere. It sounds like the hotel took action and moved you to resolve the problem.

They're offering €45, you paid £675 for 10 days accommodation and ferry tickets (and presumably the services of the tour leader, Thermis).

    So they're offering you a tad over £40 as a good-will gesture.

How much do YOU think is an appropriate figure?

You refer to a "tour" how many nights were you in this particular hotel ?
The amount you are quoting for total cost -did this include the flights as well?
The reason I'm asking is to estimate what proportion of the costs the compensation is to be able to comment on if it's fair compensation or not

Seems fair enough. What have you asked for in your letter a full refund?

I thought bed bugs where invisable with the naked eye? You get all sorts of bugs in foreign countries, we have had big ants little ants, cockroaches, lizards and this was in a 5 star hotel, I dont suppose the bugs check the ratings though lol!

This was a ten day holiday with transfers included between four islands so in the absence of a reply yet from the OP I'd guess the maximum stay at the problem hotel was three nights so as the hot water thing was a beyond the tour operator's control thing-and VERY common in greek hotels anyway I'd say £40 isn't bad compensation and I'd doubt more would be forthcoming -from what we've been told .

    But harmless.

This from the person that went dashing off to reception to report the presence of a lizard in his room :D

I am sorry, I shouldn't jest - perhaps it wasn't of the harmless chit-chat variety that one would expect in the Far East - was it yellow and black striped with big pointy teefs? ;)
