Problems with laptop only days old

Options
Hi there

I've purchased a new laptop from PC World at the weekend and after just a couple of days of using it I'm starting to get a blue screen error causing the laptop to turn itself off.

This is clearly down to faulty goods, software or hardware fault (whichever!). However I seem to remember when they were trying to sell us the PC World extended warranty and support they said if you don't purchase the extended warranty things like any operating system problems won't be covered.

I would have thought that if I took the laptop fully boxed back to PC World and explained there was a fault I could just get a brand new replacement off the shelf (under 30 day statutory rights?).

Thank you in advance for any advice to help me properly approach the situation.

Thanks - greenday2087

i would shoot for refund tbh

but they may just opt for repair or replacement

and depending on how persistent you are will depend on what you get

if it come down to a repair take it

you have a right to repair for any fault in this timescale
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Have you even taken it back yet?

Do that, then post again if there's a problem.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • I haven't taken it back yet, will do in the morning.

I just wanted to check my rights before going into the store thinking I know it all ;-)

Will post again tomorrow! Thanks guys
  • You won't need an extended warranty, or even a normal warranty as the goods are not fit for purpose.

How do you know the goods are not fit for purpose?

This could be hardware or software, or it could be incompatible software that the OP has installed since getting it, or a virus picked up.

The only thing that you can do is take it back to the store and find out what is actually wrong with it. It if proves to be a hardware or software fault, a replacement will be given.

In my experiece, a large number of problems with PCs returned to PC World are user created one way or the other so the store will test it to find out what is wrong.
